As part of this year’s programme of PR activities for Inter Beaujolais, the Inter-professional body will hold its next trade and press tasting on Thursday 26th June at the Westbury, Mayfairfrom 11am to 7.30pm.

The tasting will reflect the variety and diversity the region has to offer by highlighting a number of themes, including white and rosé Beaujolais, older vintages from 2008 and older, as well as the most recent 2013 vintage.

This year’s new focus will be on lieux-dits in Beaujolais, illustrating the importance of terroir and exploring their influence, where red wines are only made with the Gamay grape. We will also be unveiling the results of a long-term research project that looks at the characterisation of the soils in the region.

Inter Beaujolais representatives as well as winemakers will be in attendance, ready to talk attendees through the latest developments in the region.

The tasting is open to the press and to on and off trade members who are interested in sampling the latest vintage, which produced 700,000 hl in Beaujolais, a far greater result than the 2012 historic low, and exploring what else there is to this dynamic and exciting region.

Commenting on the 2013 vintage, Bertrand Chatelet, Technical Director of Sicarex (the research institute based in Villefranche-sur-Saône dedicated to the study of the vineyards in Beaujolais) states, “2013 produced structured wines all boasting freshness, a nice reminder of last autumn’s temperatures. The tannins are elegant and perfectly integrated, adding structure and length on the palate. The 2013 vintage will be defined by quality.”
