Based in Umbria, Terre de la Custodia is owned and run by the Farchioni family. Since the 1780's, the family have been known for their Extra Virgin Olive Oil & flour production, becoming the leading producer in Italy.

Farchioni's ancestors were farmers who prioritised being self-sufficient, which subsequently meant having enough vines to produce wine for the family and workers.

Today, this has developed into 180 hectares of vineyards and a premium wine brand, Terre de la Custodia

The Vineyards

Montefalco DOC & DOCG

Montefalco Sagrantino DOCG, is planted with the infamous local grape, Sagrantino and made to DOCG in 1992.

Terre de la Custodia's Sagrantinto comes from 2 hectares of clay vineyards in Gualdo Cattaneo & La Palombara at 350m ASL.

Montefalco DOC includes plantings of Sangiovese along with Grechetto, Tebbiano Spoletino and other international varieties.

At around 440m ASL, you will find the 5 hectares of Grechetto's calcareous-clay vineyards.

Chalkier soils can be found in areas in Giano Dell'Umbria where Sangiovese is planted for its Montefalco Rosso.

Colli Martani DOC

This DOC is elevated slightly higher and home to the estate's Sangiovese, Grechetto, Pinot Nero & Montepulciano vineyards.

Colli Perugini DOC

This versatile DOC is situated along the right bank of the River Tiber south of the city Perugia. With a range of aspects and soils offering pockets of chalk, the wines are known to showcase a freshness unique to this DOC. Many of Terre de la Custodia's wines benefit from the fruit grown here.

The Winery

The newly appointed winery is based in Gualdo Cattaneo, just 5km from Montefalco, surrounded by many of the home vineyards.

The winery is erected over two floors, which comprise of temperature controlled tank and oak barrel rooms. And, an important drying room where selected grapes and branches are brought to control drying for many of the red cuvees.

With the beautiful rolling hills of Umbria surrounding them, the family have built a guest house adjacent to the winery. Promoting tourism to the area and offering sensory tasting experiences and a truly authentic experience.
